1-21-20. Partner Nathan McGuire of ADAMS|STIRLING PLC and Deon Stein of The Law Offices of Deon R. Stein will present the Annual Legal Update for the Bay Central chapter of CAI, covering the the new laws and cases impacting associations.

1-17-20. Laurie Poole spoke to oever 500 attorneys at the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL) Annual Law Seminar. Community association attorneys from around the country attended Laurie's case law update. Laurie was joined by Ed Allcock of Massachusetts (current CCAL President) highlighting 2019 appellate court and Supreme Court cases throughout the country.

1-3-20. The NorCal offices of ADAMS|STIRLING, headed by Partner Nathan McGuire, held their annual holiday party in the wine cellar of the Galletto Ristorante in Modesto.

12-14-19. The Los Angeles-Orange County offices of ADAMS|STIRLING, headed by Founder and Managing Partner Adrian Adams, held their annual holiday party at the Culina Four Seasons Restaurant in Beverly Hills.

12-13-19. The San Diego-Carlsbad-Temecula offices of ADAMS|STIRLING, headed by Partner Laurie Poole, held their annual holiday party at the Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula.

12-12-19. Senior Attorney Nancy I. Sidoruk, Esq. conducted the swearing-in ceremony of the new board for the Greater Inland Empire Chapter of the Community Associations Institute -GRIE) during its annual TOPS Awards program. Nancy served as 2015 CAI-GRIE President and, in addition to being a former CAI-GRIE delegate to CAI’s California Legislative Action Committee, is a past chair and current member of the chapter’s Legislative Support Committee, monitoring legislation and educating legislators and CAI members on the impact of proposed laws on common interest developments.

12-11-19. ADAMS|STIRLING Founder and Managing Partner Adrian Adams spoke at the annual highrise managers' luncheon hosted by the ADAMS|STIRLING law firm.

Adrian provided a legislative and case law update to ~50 onsite managers and discussed how changes in the law affected managers and their associations. Changes to director elections created by SB 323 was the focus of much discussion.

12-7-19. Adrian Adams spoke to a large audience of board members in Los Angeles at an annual educational event hosted by HOA Organizers.

In addition to year-end legal updates by Adrian, Neda Nehouray covered board management responsibilities and procedures, and Dr. Lori Baker-Schena discussed ways for boards to strengthen leadership skills.
 

12-6-19. At the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco, CAI Bay Area and Central California Chapter held its Annual Awards ceremony. At the close of every year, the chapter members gather to celebrate, recognize accomplishments achieved, and award excellence within our industry. Congratulations to ADAMS|STIRLING Partner Laurie Poole for winning Best Legal Article, entitled Keeping Your Head Above Water. The article was featured in the chapter’s magazine, The Communicator.

11-15-19. Adrian Adams and Partner Laurie Poole presented at the Coachella Valley chapter of Community Association Institute's (CAI) Legal Update luncheon. They were joined by Louie Brown, Esq., California Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) Advocate, who testifies at hearings and educates the legislators in Sacramento on legislation affecting associations in California, as they provided a legislative update on California's new laws affecting homeowner associations.

Brown, Jr. discussed recent legislative changes which take effect January 1, 2020, at the CAI North County Morning Leadership Session at the QLN /Conference Center in Oceanside.  SB323  was a key focus of this presentation to an interested audience of managers , attorneys and homeowners.

10-24-19. Senior Attorney Jamie Handrick conducted a Continuing Education Seminar on Avoiding Litigation to the managers at Property Management Consultants in the beautiful Mission Valley area of San Diego.

Poole, Esq., Partner in Charge of San Diego, was a featured speaker at the Community Associations Institute's Legal Forum at the beautiful Marriott Newport Beach Hotel & Spa, along with Christina Baine DeJardin, Esq. of Delphi Law Group and Susan M. Hawks McClintic, Esq. of Epsten Grinnell & Howell. The topic, Legal Jeopardy! Practical Answers to Common Questions!, drew a standing-room-only crowd.

The Super Lawyers recognition is given to attorneys who have obtained a high level of professional achievement and peer recognition based on a lawyer's level of skill and experience. 9-13-19. Partner Laurie S. Poole and Candace Schwartz, Client Relations Director, San Diego, had a fine time at the CAI San Diego Trade Show and Leadership Lunch at the Mission Bay Hilton in beautiful San Diego.

9-5-19. Adrian Adams spoke to management company CEOs at the Levy Erlanger 7th Annual Management Company Owners Conference in Emeryville, CA.

Adrian addressed essential issues and hot topics in CC&R amendments and rewrites, such as short-term rentals, smoking (including pot), hardwood floors, maintenance, drones, to name just a few.

8-28-19. Partner Laurie S. Poole, Esq. joined CAI Orange County Chapter’s Free Legal Advice Round Table, at Woodbridge Village Association in Irvine. 

Laurie was selected by CAI Orange County to participate on a panel of attorneys providing free legal advice to luncheon attendees.

8-16-19. Nancy I. Sidoruk, Esq. and Kevin Leonard, RS, President at Association Reserves Inland Empire & Coachella Valley, discussed consequences of ignoring reserve studies and shared tips for successful reserve planning at Action Property Management, Inc. in Corona, with their continuing education presentation, Ignoring Your Reserve Study?

7-26-19. Senior Attorney Jamie Handrick presented valuable insights on the topic Water Intrusion and Insurance at a well-attended Lunch & Learn for San Diego's MENAS Realty Company.

7-20-2019. 52 CAI volunteers, family and friends, including our own Partner Laurie Poole and Client Relations Director, San Diego Candace Schwartz, gathered to process almost 2,000 pounds of food at the Feeding San Diego Food Bank. Did you know that up to 40% of the food from farmers ends up in landfill? Or that food waste is a leading cause of methane gas being released into the atmosphere? Feeding San Diego is doing everything it can to utilize those resources through contact with local farmers. It was great being a part of giving back to our beautiful community, and we look forward to participating next year!

7-12-19. Partner Laurie Poole, Senior Attorney Jamie Handrick, Client Relations Director, San Diego Candace Schwartz, and Jayne Whitaker of N. N. Jaeschke, Inc., enjoyed a beautiful and fun evening on Mission Bay at the CAI-San Diego Tiki Party! This year's edition of the annual event featured games, music, and Fire Dancers.

7-1-19. Farah Nourmand joined our firm. Prior to joining us, Farah oversaw a boutique law firm specializing in real estate, employment law, business and general civil litigation.

Corporate & Litigation Counsel. Farah's litigation practice included mediations, settlements, law and motion, eviction proceedings, and trials. On the transactional side, Farah oversaw day to day legal affairs as in-house counsel, negotiated and drafted commercial leases, determined property rights, conducted legal seminars, and performed due diligence related to purchases and sales.

Employment Law. Farah's employment law practice included preparing company policies, employee handbooks, and other employment-related documents. In addition, she advised clients on wage and hour claims and employee risk management.

5-30-19. Laurie S. Poole, Esq., Partner with Adams Stirling PLC, spoke at CAI’s Orange County Symposium and Expo on the topic Drip, Drip, Drip: Is the Association Responsible for Rain or Water Line Leaks and Damage?.

Ms. Poole, along with Kimberly Lilley of Berg Insurance, educated attendees on the ABCs of ownership, maintenance and insurance when it comes to roofs and pipes.

5-17-19. Board Member of the Foundation for Community Association Research (FCAR) Adrian Adams participated in FCAR's annual meeting on 5-17-2019As a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Community Association Research (FCAR), Adrian Adams participated in FCAR's annual meeting. He is also on the Task Force for Aging Infrastructures and their nationwide study of the impact of unexpected infrastructure failures on community associations. Along with Tyler Berding and Robert Nordlund, Adrian Adams was recognized at CAI's National Conference for his contributions to the Foundation.

4-27-19. Nathan McGuire was joined by Alex Noland, Esq., CCAL, of Noland Law PC, to present their popular Protected Uses Under the Davis-Stirling Act session to CAI BayCen Chapter's Modesto Education Forum Day & Mini-Expo at DoubleTree by Hilton Modesto. The program, which focused not only on protected uses under the Davis-Stirling Act, but also discussed the impact of non-compliance, offered education credits to Association Managers who attended.

The well-attended event was held on a lovely, sunny day at the Terramor Community Association in up-and-coming Temescal Valley.

ADAMS|STIRLING Partner Nathan McGuire, CAI-California Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) Chair, accompanied by Sue Anderson, Director of Marketing & Client Relations and CAI Coachella Valley Legislative Support Committee Chair, and Melina Drazich, Client Relations Director/Administrator, Northern California and California North Chapter Legislative Support Committee and CLAC Fundraising and Education Committee member, participated in CAI-CLAC’s Legislative Day in Sacramento. Every year, CAI members gather to educate legislators on current issues affecting California's 5,000 Community Associations. During this two-day event, participants attend briefing sessions with CLAC lobbyists, learn what new changes are on the horizon, and go straight to the Capitol to make their voices heard.

Laurie S. Poole, Esq. and Candace Schwartz have fun raising money for Autism research in San Diego on 4-6-194-6-19. Laurie Poole, Managing Partner of ADAMS|STIRLING's Carlsbad and San Diego Offices and Candace Schwartz, Client Relations Director for San Diego, participated in the CAI Outreach Committee's 5K Race for Autism.

The event included runners and walkers dressed in Super Hero attire, which made for a fun day for all involved, while raising funds for a worthy and important cause.
 

3-28-19. Adrian Adams was joined by Marybeth O. Green, CMCA, AMS, Vice President of Education and Development at Seabreeze Management Company, to present CAI-OC's March luncheon program, entitled Charting the Course - Implementing New Laws with Minimum Hassle. The program, which aimed to help establish standards for implementation of new laws, covered topics such as claims of unlawful harassment by board members, residents, vendors, and managers; what we learned from the fires about maintenance, repair, and replacement; contractors possibly considered employees (Dynamex v. California Supreme Court), and more.

3-15-19. Nancy I. Sidoruk was joined by Heather Wiltshire of Walters Management and Daniel Ryan, Esq. of McKenzie Rhody, to present You Will Survive! Tactical Strategies for Managers at the CACM Southern California Law Seminar and Expo at Disneyland Hotel.

The program was well-received and they had a standing-room-only crowd.

 

3-14-19.  Laurie S. Poole spoke at the CACM  Southern California Law Seminar and Expo at Disneyland Hotel.

She presented Everything You Wanted to Know about Insurance but Were Afraid to Ask with John MacDowell of Fiore, Racobs & Powers and Kimberly Lilley with Berg Insurance.

 

3-8-19. Laurie Poole, Esq. spoke at the CAI Coachella Valley Chapter luncheon. She was joined by Christina Dejardin, Esq. with Delphi Law Group and Sue McClintic, Esq. with Epsten, Grinnell & Howell APC, in which they hosted an Ask the Attorneys discussion on the topics of short-term rentals, new funds transfer law, DFEH pitfalls and smoking issues.

2-26-19. Laurie S. Poole was joined by Rachael Robenolt, CMCA, AMS, President of 360 Community Management, to present a Fair Housing Case Study at CAI Greater Inland Empire's Educational EXPO Experience at Pechanga Resort & Spa. Among other topics of interest to the 50 attendees, Laurie and Rachael discussed an association's journey through a discrimination claim brought by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, as well as establishing protocols and procedures to responding to requests for reasonable accommodations/modifications.

2-15-19. Nathan McGuire, current Chair of CAI's California Legislative Action Committee, was joined by Alexander Noland, Esq., CCAL, to present Protected Uses Under the Davis-Stirling Act at CAI-BayCen's San Francisco Education Luncheon. The program focused on a number of protected uses under the Davis-Stirling Act, including owner and resident rights to peaceful assembly in common areas, display of the U.S. flag and signs, pets, satellite dishes, renting/leasing, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and family day care homes. Also discussed were effects on an association and its board of directors and management personnel for non-compliance with these protected use rights. The well-received event drew 80 attendees.

2-1-19. Adrian Adams participated in Desert Resort Management's annual HOA community leadership educational symposium, How to Win at the Board Game. His topic was Legal-eeeze,which covered the impact of new laws on associations. This popular event was held at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage and was attended by over 300 board members.

1-25-19. CCAL Fellow Laurie S. Poole was joined by CCAL Fellow Edmund Allcock in presenting Case Law Update Part II at CAI's annual National Law Seminar in New Orleans. They presented their update to a ballroom filled with HOA lawyers from around the country.

The update is one of the highlights of the conference because it covers cases from around the nation, showing trends in how courts view issues involving associations.

1-24-19. Adrian Adams was joined by Diane Houston of The Management Trust and attorney Aaron Hayes from Berding|Weil in a panel discussion of Deconstructing Management Contracts.

The program was put on by the California Association of Community Managers at their annual Law Seminar in Northern California.

Partner Laurie Poole is recognized for generosity transitioning CAI-SD Presidency1-18-19. CAI-San Diego held its annual Awards Gala in beautiful San Diego. Partner Laurie S. Poole was the surprised and pleased recipient of a special “Outgoing CAI-SD President’s Award.“ 

The award was a thank-you to Laurie from the 2018 CAI-SD President Patrick Prendiville, in recognition of her generous time and guidance assisting him during the transition. Congratulations!
